Meet Baramdai (Alicia) Sharma

Baramdai Sharma, known to friends and neighbors as Alicia, is a proud Mount Olive resident, experienced financial professional, and dedicated community volunteer, is running for Town Council to bring bold, inclusive, and people-first leadership to local government.

Alicia was born on the small island of Leguan in Guyana, South America, in a rural farming community lacking essential infrastructure like electricity and roads. She is one of six siblings who grew up in an impoverished environment, but despite these challenges, her upbringing was marked by resilience and determination, deeply influenced by her mother, a dedicated and hard-working laborer. She instilled in Alicia the belief that hard work, discipline, and dedication can lead to success. These powerful principles have guided Alicia’s journey, fueling her remarkable achievements across three countries and various
industries.

After immigrating to North America and raising her children, Alicia pursued her dream of higher education—graduating cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Liberty University, and later earning an MBA from the University of Scranton. With over 30 years of experience in accounting and financial leadership across Guyana, Canada, and the United States, Alicia embodies a journey of excellence. Her proven ability to manage change, enhance internal controls, streamline operations, and inspire high- performing teams sets her apart. Currently serving as the Assistant Controller for a private K-12 school in New Jersey, she expertly oversees financial reporting for a $65M budget and a $120M investment portfolio, and drives impactful systems improvements.

Alicia embodies a profound commitment to community service. As a two-term President of the Mount Olive Public Library Board, she has assisted with the library’s strategic plan, improved the financial reporting, and supported the programs residents have enjoyed. Her contributions extend to the Mount Olive Environmental Commission and the Multicultural Committee, and she also serves as a board member and treasurer on the Woodfield Homeowners Association Board. In addition, she has devoted her time to the Mount Olive Recreation Advisory Committee, the 150th Planning Committee, and volunteered for many township activities such as the carnival, pirates & fairies, etc.

Her passion for giving back transcends borders, from running youth programs in Guyana to serving as church treasurer in Canada, and providing crisis counseling through a global nonprofit in the United States. Alicia consistently helps to raise funds for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), Family Promise, and others.

Alicia is running for Mount Olive Township Council to offer a fresh perspective, inclusive leadership, and practical solutions that reflect the needs of everyday residents. Her campaign focuses on smart development & preserving open space, addressing traffic issues, modernizing aged infrastructure, improving township services, easing the everyday financial burdens on residents, and restoring trust and confidence in local government.
As a Democrat in a traditionally red township, Alicia welcomes the challenge of reaching across political lines. Her campaign is rooted in compassion, fairness, and a deep belief that good governance serves all people—regardless of party affiliation.

Alicia’s priorities for Mount Olive:

  • Preserving Open Space and protecting the environment
  • Safer roads, improved infrastructure, and clean water
  • Affordable housing and smart development
  • Fiscal responsibility and improved township services
  • Supporting seniors, veterans, and mental health services.

Alicia is married and lives in the Woodfield community with her family, and together they remain deeply committed to Mount Olive’s future. She’s not afraid to roll up her sleeves and get to work—for you, for your family, and for a stronger, more inclusive township. With her experience, work ethic, and deep-rooted belief in the power of community, Baramdai “Alicia” Sharma is ready to lead and to listen.

“Mount Olive is a beautiful, thriving town, but it faces real challenges. I’m running to give
our community a strong, compassionate voice that listens to everyone—regardless of
